Traditional Document Review for Litigation
Our competitively-priced contract attorneys are managed by LitSmart attorneys and paralegals who average more than 15 years of experience in litigation and e-discovery. They work closely with clients to develop detailed review protocols, conduct quality control review and create privilege logs. Because of our broad experience, clients often ask our review managers to take the lead on complex privilege and confidentiality strategies. Non-traditional document review is used for matters involving cybersecurity, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence and more. The LitSmart team is well-positioned to assist clients with critical, time-consuming projects that do not warrant the use of high-cost resources. For example, when our telecommunications clients faced the daunting task of managing hundreds of notices of dispute filed on a monthly basis followed by dozens of arbitrations, we developed a workflow to streamline the process from start to finish. With the use of various tools and a combination of highly-skilled, low cost contract paralegals together with LitSmart attorneys and paralegals (all staffed at the Firm’s on-site dedicated Document Review Center in Winston-Salem), we have been able to create efficiencies and consistent product delivery, thereby minimizing potential liability and the burden on the client’s already-taxed resources.
Data Summary and Entry
Data entry projects require great attention to detail. But they should also involve a lower hourly rate than contract attorneys. We staff such projects with contract paralegals, managed by attorneys onsite at our secure Document Review Center. We have assisted in more than a dozen such projects. In one data privacy matter, we transcribed more than 200,000 lines of sensitive personally identifiable information. As part of a complex employment dispute, we annotated thousands of sign-in sheet entries. And as part of a government investigation, we analyzed millions of phone records for evidence of potential criminal activity.
Cite Checking for Formatting, Case Law for Briefs and Articles
Our team is capable of assisting with cite checking. Our service includes formatting for compliance with local court rules and the Blue Book, and ensuring cases are properly Shepardized. We use an internal ticketing system for cite-check requests, guaranteeing projects are addressed and completed on time. All members of the cite-check team have received extensive training to fulfill the firm’s rigorous qualification requirements.

All of LitSmart’s project managers are certified as Project Management Professionals (PMP). PMPs are recognized in a variety of industries as experts in completing projects correctly, on time and on budget. Our legal project managers apply a strong business sense and effective management to provide efficient, predictable and consistent services. Our team brings to your project the same qualities you would find in a PMP who manages a complex $2 billion construction site.
Secondment by LitSmart Attorneys, Paralegals or Project Managers
We also offer LitSmart team members to serve in the role of a secondee. Based on the client’s needs, an attorney, paralegal or project manager can assist onsite for several days a week or a few times a month. They can handle a variety of projects such as information governance and developing data retention/disposition policies, implementing and tracking legal holds, managing internal investigations, collecting both structured and unstructured data and conducting custodian interviews. Secondment is offered as part of the Discovery Counsel role, or can be provided for a fixed fee.
